about the book

Rising Sun

In 2036, the world does not explode.

It simply stops working.

Electricity fails. Engines die mid-flight. Guns will not fire. The laws of modern physics collapse overnight and magic returns.

Software consultant Jack Adams arrives in Tokyo hours before the shift. When technology vanishes, he discovers something impossible. He can wield elemental magic. As society descends into chaos, vampires emerge from hiding, werewolves hunt the living, spirits linger among the dead, and ancient forces rise to claim a world no longer protected by science.

The Reversion is not random.

For millennia, an 800-year cycle has governed reality, with technology fading into magic and magic fading back into technology. Humanity forgot. The cycle did not.

People fight to survive in a newly tech-less world teeming with magic and mythical creatures in Rolston’s debut fantasy novel

Fifty-six-year-old American software engineer Jack Adams checks into Tokyo’s luxurious Emerald Palace Hotel. Additionally, he somehow can understand everyone, regardless of the language they speak. Electricity is out across the city and possibly around the world, so Jack and hotel general manager Satoshi Watanabe do their best to ensure the high-rise Emerald Palace is safe,
